I. Overview

Introduction

LastName’s Italian Steak House, Inc. (or the Restaurant) is a new restaurant that will be established in AnyCity, AnyState. It will be a full service restaurant specializing in Italian cuisine and steaks. It will also serve beer and wine. The Restaurant will offer its customers a friendly, casual family atmosphere and a unique, proprietary menu. The diner will feature healthy food choices with an Italian theme.

The Restaurant will have full table service, offering its customers a unique dining experience built upon a solid reputation of quality food, excellent service, and relaxing atmosphere. LastName’s Italian Steak House will become extremely well known and frequented. As it establishes its name and reputation, the Restaurant will draw a wide variety of clientele from the area.

The city of AnyCity is located about twenty five minutes east of Dallas, north of I-30 and near Lake Ray Hubbard. The city is expanding rapidly and has become a prime area to live in because of its great location (two miles from the lake and its growing number of homes). The Restaurant expects to gain a profitable market share of customers within a very short period of time. Determinations have been made for the size of the market and the amounts of budgeted advertising and promotional dollars.

In its first twelve months, the Restaurant will generate $750,000 in food sales and $231,000 in beer and wine sales. By its fifth year of business, LastName’s Italian Steak House will achieve almost $1.43 million in revenues, $464,000 of operating income and more than $280,000 of net income.

The Market and Opportunity

The United States has a love affair with food, particularly in a dining environment. Restaurants allow us to continue the tradition of gathering around the table while we enjoy one another’s company. LastName’s Italian Steak House will offer this and more.

Restaurants bring families together and give businesses a place to conduct meetings without the aggravation of constant interruptions. Public officials, sports enthusiasts, friends, neighbors and co-workers often choose a restaurant environment to meet rather than talk on the phone, at home or some other remote location. People go to restaurants to relax, unwind, enjoy each other’s company and simply feel part of the community.

Growth of Restaurant Industry

According to the National Restaurant Association’s (NRA) 2007 Restaurant Industry Forecast, 2007 is predicted to show a 5% increase over 2006 restaurant sales, totaling record sales of $537 billion.

Currently the United States has more than 935,000 restaurant and foodservice outlets nationwide; employing 12.8 million people. Over the next decade, the report states more than 2 million new employment opportunities will be added. The NRA went on record as saying, “The industry is heading into 2007 as an economic powerhouse and an essential part of Americans' lifestyle, with Americans spending 47.9 percent of their food budget in restaurants.”

Steven C. Anderson, president and chief executive officer of NRA told the press, “Restaurants touch millions of lives every day by serving quality meals, providing abundant career and employment opportunities for individuals of all backgrounds, and being a driving force in the U.S. economy and local communities nationwide. The restaurant industry will enter its 16th consecutive year of real growth in 2007, and will have a total economic impact that will exceed $1.3 trillion.”
